Selling a car when the title is gone
A missing title is why most dead cars sit for years instead of months. It is a real complication and it is usually solvable in one phone call.
What that looks like
- Photo ID plus the old registration or plate helps a great deal
- We need the VIN from the dash or the door jamb
- Illinois and Indiana have different rules — tell us which state the car is in
- If it is in someone else's name, say so first; that changes what we need
Have this ready when you call
Year, make and model; the cross streets; whether it rolls and steers; whether the converter and wheels are still fitted; whether you have the title; and which state it is parked in. That is enough for a real figure.
If it is blocked in, in a locked garage, or on a parking deck a flatbed cannot enter, say so — we will send the right truck first time.
