Empty it properly
Glovebox, console, door pockets, boot, spare wheel well, under the seats. Cars that have sat for years hold documents, tools, spare keys and occasionally cash. Once it is on the truck it is gone.
Take the plates
They are yours, not the car's. The driver will help if you have no screwdriver.
Have ID and paperwork out
Photo ID, and the title if you have one. Having it ready is the difference between a ten-minute pickup and a call back to the office.
Clear the access
Move whatever is parked in front, unlock the garage, open the gate. Tell us about narrow alleys, low clearance decks and gate codes when you book, not when the driver is outside.
Find the keys, or say you cannot
No keys is fine. Knowing in advance just means the right gear turns up.
Cancel insurance afterwards, not before
Wait until the car is gone and paid for, then contact your insurer and the state so you are not paying for a vehicle you no longer own.
